Video Projects, Browser Storage and Your Data

Editing and exporting happen in your browser. Local storage, a saved project and an exported video each contain different things, so keep your original footage to be able to reopen or change a project later.

Videos and projects in this browser

The browser can keep imported originals, thumbnails and projects on the device you used. How much it keeps depends on free space and the browser. Clearing site data or switching devices can leave a project without its footage, so keep copies elsewhere.

A project backup does not contain the video

A downloaded backup holds the timeline instructions, media details and file identities, not the footage. To reopen it you need the original files, and the editor asks you to relink anything missing. An exported MP4 or WebM is the finished video, not an editable project.

Saving to your account stores edit metadata

Saving a project to your account stores its instructions and media details. The original video is not uploaded for that save, so the account is not a backup of your footage.

What goes with an AI request

Your prompt, the project instructions, the selected clip and relevant analysis can be sent to the service and to the model provider through OpenRouter. Silence analysis runs on your device and passes candidate ranges, not your recording or a transcript.

Shared sign-in, separate sessions

GPTVideoEdit uses the same account system as GPTVideoEditor and the photo apps, so the same email and password work. Each site has its own signed-in session. The privacy policy lists the data kept and how to contact us about your account.

Frequently asked questions

Can a project file bring back my video?

Does saving to my account upload my video?
